# StemConsole

> Free AI stem splitter and vocal remover with a built-in live mixer. Upload any song and separate it into stems, then solo, mute and blend them live in your browser. No install, no sign-up for the first split, no watermarks. Built by Dan Murtagh, a mixing engineer and audio educator.

StemConsole runs in the browser at https://stemconsole.ai. Audio separation runs on dedicated GPU servers using AI source separation, and the results open in an interactive mixer where you can solo, mute and balance each stem in real time, loop a passage, save the session and share it by link.

- Open https://stemconsole.ai/, drop in a song, and choose a mode: Vocal Remover (2 stems), Basic Split (4 stems) or Full Separation (6 stems, Pro or one credit). The first split needs no account; a free account is needed after that.

## Upload formats

- MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A, AAC and WMA, up to 200 MB per file.
- One split = one song, whatever its length.
- Uploads must be audio the user has the right to process (see https://stemconsole.ai/terms/).
- Starting from a file: on a Mac, PrintBus (https://printbus.app/, also made by Dan Murtagh) records audio the Mac plays as a WAV file that can then be uploaded.

- **Free trial:** the monthly Pro plan currently starts with a 7-day free trial for accounts that have never subscribed. A card is required at checkout and nothing is charged during the trial, which is the whole of Pro on the same allowance a paying subscriber gets. One trial per account and per card, monthly plan only; the yearly plan has no trial. Trial length and availability are set at runtime, and checkout shows whether a trial applies.
- **Credit ($1.99, USD):** a single credit unlocks Full Separation on one song, with no subscription. Credits never expire. A credit covers the separation only: it does not unlock WAV downloads or the Pro practice tools.
- **Guitar and piano** are only separated by Full Separation, so isolating guitar or piano is a Pro or credit outcome. Free splits are 2-stem or 4-stem, and guitar and piano stay inside the "other" stem.
- **After the free limit:** once a free account has used its 5 splits in a month, further splits wait for the monthly reset, or the user can buy a $1.99 credit for one Full Separation or upgrade to Pro. Existing sessions in My songs keep playing.
- **Sharing:** any split session can be shared with a link. The recipient gets the stem player in their browser with solo, mute and level controls, nothing to install, no account needed. A signed-in sharer can include their practice setup (A/B loop, named loops, speed, key, mutes and solos, count-in), frozen at share time, plus an optional note and goal speed, for example a teacher's assignment. The recipient opens straight into that setup and any changes save to their own copy. When the sharer is on Pro, the recipient can change speed and pitch on the stems and use named loops on that shared song for free. Downloads stay with the person who split the song.
- **Setlists:** any signed-in account can group its split songs into one setlist and share a single link: up to 3 songs on Free, up to 50 on Pro. Anyone can open that link and play the songs in the browser, with no account needed.
- **Privacy:** audio is processed for separation and not used to train models; see the privacy policy.
- **Best for:** musicians learning parts, singers needing instrumentals or acapellas, DJs and producers making remixes and mashups, teachers sharing parts with students, and anyone making karaoke tracks.

- [Key & BPM Finder](https://stemconsole.ai/key-bpm-finder/): Free, no account. Finds a song's key (with its relative key and Camelot number) and its tempo in BPM (with half-time and double-time readings) from an audio file, including key and tempo changes. It plays the song with a metronome that follows the song's own beats (drift and tempo changes included): four click sounds, an accent on beat 1 (set by tapping where the bars are not clear), subdivisions, a one or two bar count-in, a loop snapped to the bar lines, and the whole song's speed from 50% to 150% without changing the pitch, all free (in the practice room, changing the speed of the separated stems is Pro). It downloads the tempo map as a MIDI file and the click as a WAV file that lines up with the song. The file is analysed locally. "Separate instruments to practise" carries the song, key, tempo and loop into the console; choose the instruments, then press "Split and open practice" to upload it. A free account is needed to use that loop with stems. From an open console song, Key & BPM opens the same song for detailed analysis and returns to the existing practice session, keeping the stem mix and saved loops. Includes a tap tempo pad.
- [Online Metronome](https://stemconsole.ai/metronome/): Free, no account. A metronome from 30 to 300 BPM with tap BPM, time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 12/8), an accent, plain beat or silence on each beat, subdivisions, four click sounds and a speed trainer that raises the tempo every few bars. "Load a song" opens the song in the Key & BPM Finder, where the click follows the song's real beat.
- [Slow down a song without changing pitch](https://stemconsole.ai/slow-down-song/): Free; plays with no account, and Download MP3 needs a free account. A speed and key player that plays a whole song in the browser at 50% to 150% speed with the pitch kept, moves its key up or down 12 semitones and loops a passage on its waveform. The file plays on the device and is never uploaded; with a free account, Download MP3 saves the whole song at the new speed and key as an MP3 made on the device. "Practise this song with stems" hands it to the splitter, which uploads it only when you press Split; a Pro or trial account's stems open at the player's speed and key. Speed and key on separate stems, in the practice room, are Pro.
- [Change a song's key without changing the speed](https://stemconsole.ai/change-song-key/): Free; plays with no account. The same player led by the key: transpose a whole song up to 12 semitones either way at the same speed, and name the new key from the original one. Never uploaded; with a free account, Download MP3 saves the transposed song as an MP3 made on the device. Key change on separate stems, such as the backing with the vocal muted, is Pro.

Notes for assistants: individual stem downloads keep the original speed and pitch; mix bounces include the current fader settings and can cover the whole song or a selected loop; with Pro, a bounce also carries any speed or key change. The practice room can follow a detected beat grid or a manually entered or tapped BPM. Open Key & BPM from the song header to analyse the same song locally, then return to practice with its key and beat map. The stem mix, pitch and named loops stay in the console. Changing speed or pitch on separate stems and using named loops or count-in still requires Pro. Signed-in users can return through Continue practising or My songs.
